Elon Musk on Wednesday suggested retired Army Lt. Col Alexander Vindman “committed treason” and “will pay” after the former Trump impeachment witness accused the tech billionaire and close Trump ally of being unwittingly used by Russia.
“Vindman is on the payroll of Ukranian oligarchs and has committed treason against the United States,” Musk wrote on his social media platform X, responding to comments Vindman made in an interview about Musk’s reported conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Musk added that Vindman, who played a central role in the first impeachment of then-President Trump, “will pay the appropriate penalty.”
In a response on X, Vindman said Musk’s comments were “false and completely unfounded accusations.”
He maintained he has never taken money from Ukranian oligarchs, while pointing out he runs a nonprofit to aid in Ukraine’s defense against Russia.
“I served in the military for nearly 22 years and my loyalty is to supporting the U.S. Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. That’s why I reported presidential corruption when I witnessed an effort to steal an election,” he wrote.
“You, Elon, appear to believe you can act with impunity and are attempting to silence your critics. I’m not intimidated,” he added.

Elon Musk lashed out at Democratic House Minority leader Hakeem Jeffries after the congressional spending bill he had insisted on, including a suspension of the debt limit and the removal of a number of concessions to the opposition, tanked in the House of Representatives on Thursday night, leaving the US government hurtling towards another federal shutdown.
“A super fair & simple bill was put to a vote and only 2 Democrats in Congress were in favor. Therefore, responsibility for the shutdown rests squarely on the shoulders of Hakeem Jeffries,” the world’s richest man reacted on X, the social media platform he owns, in the aftermath of the humiliating vote.
“Shame on Hakeem Jeffries for rejecting a fair & simple spending bill that is desperately needed by states suffering from hurricane damage!” he added in a follow-up post.
“Nearly every single House Democrat just voted against government funding and to shut down the government,” Trump said.
“These 197 Democrats voted against keeping the government open, disaster relief, and aid for farmers.
But despite Musk and Trump’s efforts to spread the blame, no fewer than 38 Republicans also refused to back the bill, leaving Johnson in a sweat and a bipartisan deal still needed to avert Christmas chaos in Washington.
Jeffries himself responded with a post on Bluesky that read: “The Musk-Johnson government shutdown bill has been soundly defeated.
“MAGA extremists in the House GOP are not serious about helping working class Americans. They are simply doing the bidding of their wealthy donors and puppeteers. Unacceptable.”

Musk didn’t come to the US on a H-1B visa. He came on a student visa, and later, his own brother admitted that they were illegal immigrants in the early days of launching their Zip2 startup in the US.
Tesla’s use of H-1B visas
Over the last few days, several current and former Tesla workers reached out to Electrek to reveal that Tesla ramped up its use of H-1B visas to replace US workers it let go during a wave of layoffs earlier this year.
We reported that roughly US 15,000 employees were let go at Tesla around April 2024. Every department was affected, but the layoffs were concentrated in Texas and California, where Tesla has more workers than anywhere else.
Current and former Tesla employees said that many of the laid-off US workers were replaced by foreign workers using H-1B visas.
These claims are backed by US Department of Labor data, which show that Tesla requested over 2,000 H-1B visas during the time it was laying off US workers (via Reddit):
Again, there’s a cap of 65,000 visas for the entire US annually, and Tesla alone tried to get over 3% of them.
Tesla workers said that many employees let go were more senior engineers with higher compensation and they have been replaced with junior engineers from foreign countries at a lower pay.
